What's included

Field recording

Original recordings of the places, rooms, and atmospheres that define the subject. Streets, doorways, kitchens, coastlines.

Voice archive

Captured conversations, readings, or ambient presence. The sound of someone simply being in a space.

Composed score

A short original piece woven from the recordings — not background music, but something that could only belong to this story.

Archival master

High-resolution files, mixed and mastered. Delivered on a hand-labelled drive and via private download.

Liner notes

A written document tracing the choices made — why these sounds, why this structure, what was preserved.

The process

I

Conversation

We begin with a long conversation — in person, by letter, or by call. You tell me about the subject: a person, a place, a chapter of life.

Recording

I spend time in the relevant spaces, gathering sound with care and discretion. This may take a day or several weeks depending on the commission.

III

Composition

In the studio, the recorded material becomes something shaped. Layered, edited, scored. Each decision is made in service of the story.

IV

Review

You hear the work before it is finished. There is room for refinement — this is a collaboration, not a transaction.

V

Delivery

The final portrait is delivered in full: lossless audio, liner notes, and archival files. Something to keep.

Pricing

Each commission is priced individually.

Scope, travel, recording time, and length of the final work all vary. After an initial conversation, I'll prepare a quote specific to your commission. Most portraits range from £800 to £3,500.
